I really loved this first book in what is set to be a five book series. The writing was fantastic, it was a quick read, I loved it. What really got me going was the humor and adventure in this book. If you liked Harry Potter or Percy Jackson, which are two of the most anticipated series of all time, then I highly suggest you read this.
This book follows twelve year old Callum Hunt, which they call Call, and he was born with a birth defect on his leg.His mother was killed in this big war and he isn't exactly the role-model student. Call is dragged to the Magisterium. His father repeatedly tells him to try and fail the tests he will be given. Call doesn't know why his father would tell him to fail, but Call tries. He does fail every test in the end. And when the Masters call three people that they will tutor throughout the years. The most powerful Master picks Callum. Call is confused as to why he would be picked, after failing every test. Leaving his father behind, Call starts his first year at the Magisterium, his Iron Year, to become a Master himself.
While reading this book, I suggest paying attention to the little things. I found that in the end when they revealed some crazy things, it all came back to some stuff that was mentioned earlier in the book, but I never really thought much of it until the end.
I loved this, the ending was phenomenal. Being a huge fan of Cassandra Clare, and loving Holly Blacks idea in Coldest Girl In Coldtown about mixing fantasy and dystopian together was really great.
Thank you so much for reading, please leave your comments below, and I will get back to you as soon as I can, thank you!
