Alright, so lately I have been thinking about people who see the movies before they read the book. Now, I'm not going to lie, I have been there before. I watched the first three Harry Potter movies before I read the books. But that is because I was young at the time and was not aware that there were books. Lord of The Rings, too. I am not a Lord of The Rings fan, they never really interested me. But what I really hate is people getting obsessed with the movies. And I mean obsessed, like fan pages and merchandise and photos on their phones and posters. And I get so mad because if you're obsessed with a movie, and you have a crush on the male or female protagonist YOU ARE NOT A REAL FAN! Because you haven't read the book and you don't know what its like in the book, because the book will always be better than the movie.
And then what I find stupid is two things. People who see the movie and that is all they talk about and how much they just love everything and anything the has to do with the movie. Just. Stop. You can't be the fandom unless you have read the books before you see the movie. I hate it when people say the movie is fantastic and the people who have actually read the book(s) are like: No. This was different in the book. He never said this. And so on because we have actually read the book. Because we know what actually happened because we have read the book. You haven't, therefore you can't talk about it because you're not a true fan. I hate this because these people act like they are actually fans, which they are fans and that is fine and everything, but you are not a true fan.
And then the second thing I hate is people that see the movie and then read the book. I hate this because these people see the movie and they're obsessed with it. And then they decide to read the book. And then they really like the book. I get mad because then they try to talk about it with someone like me who read the book when it first came out and everything, and read the book not because they just saw the movie but because they were actually interested in it before there was any possibility of it becoming a movie. So I don't consider those people fans either. I saw this happen with Maze Runner and of course The Fault In Our Stars which every girl in the school has read. I just hate because I am happy that they at least read the book but I am mad that they are only reading the book because they saw the movie and now the book interested them. It just makes me mad and I know a lot of these people and I just don't like them. At my school people know that I love books and so they come up to me and ask me have I seen this movie that was based off a book and chances are I'll probably say yes because I read the book and then saw the movie which was decent but they didn't follow everything. And this is what makes me mad.
Them: Hey, Sara, have you seen Maze Runner?
Me:Yeah, I thought it was really good. Did you see it?
Them:Yeah, I did. It was awesome. Dylan O'Brien is so hot.
Me: Did you read the book?
Them: There's a book?
I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me. I just can't even. So please. If you want to be apart of a book fandom read the book or series or whatever. Don't just see the movie and consider yourself apart of the fandom. It makes us true fans mad. And this is going to happen with a lot of movies this year and the next. And the next. And the next.
So people, you know who you are, just read the books. You might actually find pleasure in it.
